Fuel Leak or maybe burp?

Sometimes for no apparent reason my 74 Midget leaks gas. It seems to leak out of the top of the tank and run over the edge onto the ground. I suspect a venting issue. It has happened twice in about a three week period. The car was parked and had not run for the day. Once in my garage at around 50 degrees F and once in the parking lot at around 75 degrees F.
 
The gage does not work so it is probably time to look into.
 
Sounds like an excellent idea.
