TR6 Fuel injection for TR6

Hello,
I know this is a basic for many of you, but I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of fuel injection - an option for this car. I have the opportunity to buy an original set, and I would also like to know what a fair price for the system would be. Also, I know there were different size pumps for this system. What would I need for a 69? Thanks,

Advantages? About 50 more horsepower, good torque all the way up to redline, and of course bragging rights at your next club meet. Disadvantages? Parts only come from the UK, not that expensive but shipping can be costly. Its not rocket science, but it is alot different than carburation and needs to be treated with respect. Special equipment needed to set up metering units for your car. The horsepower advantages can not be realized without a proper cam, reworked head to UK specs.....the list goes on. Dont expect much change back from $1000.00 bucks, but if you are pretty handy then making up your own lines etc can save you some cash.
And as far as i know, there is only one pump for a PI system, the lucas pump. There is a mod to replace this with a Bosch pump which is a bit easier to obtain.

To achieve the 150 hp you will have to duplicate the build of the earlier spec engines. The later build created 125 hp.
Bosch makes a fuel pump that many use as a replacement for the Lucas. Lucas pumps have a reputation of overheating.
Many people had horror stories about the PI systems, but I've also heard of many debunking the myth. I imagine the problem was PI were relatively rare and people were afraid to work on them. Much like people are afraid of SU's and ZS's.
I do know that a rebuilt PI system take a little time to "run in". The butterflies have to coke up before they seal well.

From what I understand, the fuel injection system put on the non-North American cars wasn't totally responsible for the 150 HP figure. The engine also had a pretty wild cam, and the compression ratio was higher. Because of the cam, there were lots of complaints about slow speed tractibility, so things were downgraded to 125 HP as mentioned above.

In all actuality, the 150 HP figure should be attainable with the Stromberg carbs if the cam and compression are changed. Maybe there were other differences, such as valve sizes etc., but I don't know.

The fuel injection was introduced in the hope that it would help in meeting the more stringent US emmission standards. It didn't work out as planned, so we in the US wound up with a de-tuned engine putting out no more power then the four cylinder TRactor motor it replaced. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Kevin, if indeed you have access to an original PI system and choose not to install it, I would be willing to bet that you can sell it to someone that wants those bragging rights.
And make a handsome profit doing it, depending on what you have to pay.
The conversion, as stated in above posts, ain't easy and ain't cheap. But someone will want it.
