Fuel Gauge

I am sure this subject has come up before but I couldn't find it with a search.
The gauge on my 100 will stay at 0 even when the tank is full. Then it may move and show 3/4 full and then back to zero.It has never shown full even when the tank is full.
Where is the best place to start and what tests can I do.

I had similar problems with mine and grounded not only the tank sending unit but also the fuel gauge. I also cleaned all the spots where the fuellines were attached and since then, the fuel gauge has been working fine (although a slight deviation will always remain . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Regards ---Higgins

No it would not open for me either Curtis,But just follow Higgin's suggestion and add or clean all the electrical grounds at both ends of the guages electrical circuit.---Keoke

OK I got it dave, Thats absolutely ridiculous using the fuel line as a ground return.I have for this reason always advocated a dedicated ground wire be added to the tank in the boot.--Keoke

It's surprising how many times BMC didn't provide a dedicated ground for fuel sending units... while in other instances it did.

BTW,
A good case ground at the gage is also important for an accurate reading.
