Fuel Gauge Rebuilder Recommendations

The needle finally snapped off of the fuel gauge. Too much tinkering to get it working and calibrated. Just couldn't get it dialed in.

Looking for suggestions as to who can rebuild and calibrate an original fuel gauge out of a 1960 BN7. Needs new needle (obviously) and likely have the resistor coils rewound (one side got "shortened" a bit during my rebuild!).

I highly recommend these folks. They are very nice to work with, fair prices and they really stand behind their work. They completely clean the faces and trim rings, lube and calibrate them so they are like new. The only downside is the gauge will come back looking so nice, you will be tempted to send them all in :smile:

Hi Mike,

This is just an idea, but if you drive you car, you might consider restoring you original fuel gauge and saving it for the future.

A modern programmable fuel gauge works much better with data averaging (more stable needle) and you can set lights to come on when you tank is at 25% (or any amount you want). There are a number of bezel options that are close to the old Smith gauges. Unlike the original, modern fuel gauges are more accurate and more dependable. And, they are easily calibrated to ANY fuel sender.

Also, its a good time to make sure your sender is well grounded. Most fuel gauge problems are due to poor grounding.
