TR2/3/3A Fuel gauge fixed! TR3A

Yeehaa! Finally got the fuel gauge working.

There was no pointer needle, so I made one out of the minute hand from an old clock. Used superglue gel to attach the pointer to the stub of the "swing arm" inside. That was actually the toughest part of the job.

Then used two 68ohm resistors and a 12v power supply to calibrate the gauge (adding and/or shorting out the resistors, loosening and moving the Empty and Full magnets). Replaced in the dash, turned the switch, and ...

It works!

Nice one Tom. Way to go! Now I'll know where to send mine if it acts up. (or should that be WHEN it acts up?)

Outstanding!

I love innovation.

Congratulations, Tom.

I see that the rust patina on the gauge matches that of your needlenose!

Pliers, that is.

Nice going Tom. There's a real thrill getting these gauges to work without having to send them out. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Tom,
That is a very impressive repair. You put me to shame. I bought a $70 rebuilt unit off eBay and after getting it shipped over here it turned out that the problem was with the sender unit!

Nice going! but dont kid yourself gages are never really fixed, they are just working now so that they can lull you into a false sence of security....then they take their revenge latter!!!!
