Fuel filter

I've owned my TR6 for about 5 years and never replaced the fuel filter. It was grundgy on the outside, but the inside looked OK anytime I wiped it off.

I replaced it the other day and cut the plastic case open to see how much dirt was in there. It was way cleaner that I'd have guessed. Then I realized that the paper filter is supposed to be glued to the top of the housing and had come loose. So, basically, I've had no filter for who knows how long. As many times as I looked at that filter, I could never have seen it was in need of replacement.

Even though I only put about 2k miles on my 73 TR6 I still change the gas filter every spring. I just do it as a precaution.

What part number & brand are you guys using for a clear plastic filter?

Mine's a FRAM but I have no idea what part number.

Changing every year is a good idea, IMO, part of a standard tuneup just like changing the air filter. 99% of the time it won't be necessary, but having one clog up while on the road is too much of a PITA to take the risk, IMO. BTDT, got the T-shirt dirty.

Part of the reason the TR3A is still wearing it's original sediment bowl and no paper element fuel filter.

I can't remember when I got it, but it was sitting in a box with some new air filters under the bar for at least a year. The box is marked "empty container". The part number from the filter box seems to match one from VictBrit 3-199. The box also says 043-0025 and Beck/Rnley WorldParts Fuel Filter. -The replacement is also a clear plastic one, though it may not be the same brand as I removed.

I'll be changing it more often.

I use Fram G2 on my GT6. This is sized for a 5/16" fuel line. The G2 comes with the plastic filter, two short lengths of 5/16" hose and four spring clip. All for $0.91 each (or thereabouts) from Amazon - and I got free shipping. Mark

Dang Jer !!

That filter's mighty nasty looking. I'm tempted
to say it's been Pedro-ized but DPO Pedro ran his fuel
lines without any filter.

Nice close-up photo !!

Of course you could always go overboard and add two filters - something like this...

Oh no, I concede.

Two was what the pump mfr recommended. That was plenty for me.

As an extra bonus though, mine are all closed up - I'll never have to see how dirty it is in there!
