fuel feed pipe to carb

Have twin SU HS2 carbs on my 61'AH Sprite. Rebuilt carbs several months ago but one of the carbs jet's fuel feed pipe (at bottom of fuel bowl) just pops out at the slighest pull.

Does the rubber sealing washer (ie gland) go in first, or does the metal washer go in first followed by the rubber sealing washer?? Hope I'm making sense...I don't have leaking when the metal washer goes in first but SU CARB diagrams seems to show rubber sealing washer in first. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
I'm pretty sure the metal washer goes in first, then the rubber. Some of the diagrams are wrong.
 
I put the washer in first, then with the gland over the tube, I slide it in and tighten it down. Seems to work that way....
 
Stan, the washer goes against the gland nut, on the jet tube. The rubber washer goes at the end of the tube. When you tighten the nut, the steel washer prevents the shoulder of the gland nut from cutting the rubber washer when it compresses it. The rubber washer sould be a snug fit over the jet tube, or it won't be able to seal. If it's a sloppy fit, I'd suggest replacing it.

After experimenting awhile, I realized that I hadn't put the rubber washer over the tube; I was just seating it in the bowl opening-so I think that was the problem. The metal washer then rubber washer at the end (and completely on the tube) works well, it is a snug fit and their is not leaking...was a pesky little thorn of a problem that is now fixed...thanks...irish
 
Stan, as the rubber washer compresses around the tube, it effectively retains the tube, as you found. Just placing it inside the bowl does nothing, except perhaps to block fuel flow completely.
