TR6 Fuel evaporating?

If I leave my TR6 for a week or two without running, it is very hard to start. I am noticing that the fuel filter is just about empty after this time. Priming the pump with the little lever on the bottom of the pump does not seem to do much if anything to fill the filter. Is the fuel somehow siphoning back into the tank or would there be that much evaporation in that time. The engine is definitely struggling for fuel on startup. Is there a built in back flow valve in the fuel pump or would this be a needed addition to the fuel line?

You won't be able to judge the effectiveness of the priming lever by looking into the fuel filter...but if you remove one of the fuel lines from one of the carbs and work the priming lever, you will.
And don't let the resistance or lack of resistance from the lever as you work it form your opinion as to whether it's working properly or not.

Typically the fuel filter will not appear full (is it half full or half empty? -- talk among yourselves and discuss).

Do you smell fuel in the garage? If not, you may be experiencing normal evaporation from the fuel bowls. If you do smell fuel there may be a leak.

If unsure... after a drive, try wiping under the carb with a paper towel (a brown one or blue one like many gas stations have is best) to see if things are damp with fuel under there.

Two times with the GT6, it became really reluctant to start (it ran fine once it did start and started fine when warm). Both times a rebuild of the fuel pump got rid of the problem...and with a new diaphragm, that lever again had good resistance and moved fuel.

My TR6 was doing the same thing, summer or winter. Adjusting the choke cable cured the problem. Now it starts in about 15-20 seconds cold, instantly when hot. Make sure you are getting full opening and closing.
