Status update: I now have all four corners in, and one of the side pieces.
The way I got the side piece in was by slightly bending the trim piece along its long axis, so making it narrower, i.e. bulging in the centre. Then I was able to slide it in by gently tapping on the end with a rubber mallet. Then I tried tapping down the bulge gently with the mallet, working down the strip, but unfortunately that introduced some noticeable "dents" in the strip /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Well, although that method worked, but it wont work for the long, curved pieces.

I started this windscreen rubber replacement job on May 13. It is now June 30, and I am delighted to announce that I have made even more progress: I now have one side strip, the bottom strip, and all four corners of the chrome trim in place.
All that remains is the remaining side strip, and the top strip.
At this rate I may actually finish by Christmas.

PS I find one of Tony's "Autoist" hats very useful to keep the sweat out of the eyes when manhandling chrome into rubber trim in the midday Southern California sun.

I still have my GT strips to install....sounds like you'll have lots of experience...wanna come to Illinois and supervise?

Thanks for the warning (and many others' previously!).
Mine is off to the local MG specialist tomorrow for a new windscreen without (my) sweat and tears. Kudos to you though, Julian - there's nothing alike a job finally well done by one's own hand!
