I made up a tool for the locking strip, using bent coat hanger and a small piece of roller. It didn't work very well :-( I've since been pushing in the strip by hand: exhausting work, but it's going in.
Windscreen replacement is a job I will go to extreme lengths to avoid doing again /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Somehow it's more fun than writing a proposal to NSF
I am not out of the trees yet. I have been installing the locking strip. About half way around now, but my thumbs are sore, and I'm running out of washing up liquid! Also, it's getting progressively harder to push the darned thing in.
So I decided to order a tool for the job ... found a windscreen locking tool on Ebay, should arrive in a day or so. I have a feeling that with the right tool, this will be a lot easier!

When I installed the locking strip on my GT windscreen last week, I found that the locking strip went in easier if I put it in sideways, got one side to lock in then rolled the other side in by pushing in with a screw driver that I rounded the end off with a grinder.
I locked in the glass side first, then rolled toward the body side, once I got going this way, I was done in about half an hour. Like you I used lots of dish soap.

Hi Doug ... that's interesting. I tried that for a while, but found it required Hurculean effort to roll the other side in. I was a little nervous about tearing the rubber, and I felt I was risking it with a butter knife (which I used for a while). It's good to hear that someone has managed it using no special tools!

Here's an update on the windscreen progress. I bought the following purpose-built tool for inserting the locking strip:
... it transformed the job from a frustrating PITA to an almost orgasmically satisfying one. I had done half the windscreen locking strip the hard way, and it had taken me about an hour of pushing, lubing and swearing. With this tool I did the remaining half in less than ten minutes. It parts the surround, and pushes the strip in really easily. Best $10 I've spent in a while /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Yes: a good sign. I must say, since moving to the US of A, I've been very impressed with the quality of the tools. Much better than the French ones I used to buy /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I think this job will be the death of me. I am now trying to install the chrome trim pieces. I have the four corners in place, but I cannot get the strips in no matter how I try.
I'm very concerned about using too much force to pull the rubber lip over the edges, and ripping the rubber.

I hope you have a detailed set of pics. I'd love to see them and have this as a reference. I'll ask the seller a question.
Does installing the trim in the hot sun help get it in easier or does it help frustrate the installer?
