Frontline Suspension Install

I suggest you make a boot to cover the opening of the shock cover or remove it and replace it with something but the point is it should be sealed at the top instead of open at the top so it can collect dirt, grit, flora, water and mud.

Excellent; you will like the HIF once you get it dialed in.

Aircraft parts make our LBCs faster. Really.

EDIT: good thought on making a cover/gaiter; it's now on the 'do' list. Thanks~

I wonder if the world of off-road vehicles might provide a suitable part. An Ebay search on shock boot brings up some. Thanks for this thread. I am still undecided about what I plan to do with my front end.

Off road stuff! Perfect. I was thinking about motorcycle fork gaiters.

Took me a year to decide on the Frontline stuff. Take your time.

Where in SoCal are you? I'm from Van Nuys.

EDIT: I should add that I am now located in Tennessee; served in the 101ST / Fort Campbell, and decided to stay here.

I'm just north of you in Santa Clarita. I commuted to Sylmar in my Midget todsy. Back home over Little Tujunga. We aren't that far apart.

From the looks of the photos, as you mentioned, I would say that suspension should be check for being out of specifications. I am sure due from the new spring height, I know you feel good about getting all of this done, thanks for reference through photos

Got the alignment done; night and day difference, of course.

Steering is light and precise, car reacts quickly, but not skittish.

With the shocks adjusted at the half-way point, good feel, a little light (to me), so I'm going to increase them a bit.

No problems on the crappy highway; held the line well, no wandering with the pitching road.

With only the front completed, the car already handles very well; far more capable than the tires! Guess that's more cash getting ready to depart my rather light wallet.

I'm very pleased, and cannot wait to get the rear kit installed. But I'll have to, as it's back to work I go~

Okay, good news, stupid news.

The good: Got the rear kit installed!

The stupid: I was a dork; I failed to remember the camera.

Here are three shots I just took once I got home:

Sorry about that.

With the shocks set at the 1/2 way point, the ride was VERY stiff. After playing with different settings, I have set the rears at their lightest point. It is still pretty stiff, but I happen to prefer that feeling. Quite Mini-like, if you follow. (BTW: The fronts are set two clicks short of maximum.)

The car handles very well; I will have to drive her for a while before deciding on the RTL. May not need it.

My overall advice: I definitely recommend the front shock and ARB conversion. For daily driving, you can stop right there. It's that good.

If you're like me, and don't care what your kidneys and lower spine think, then go for the rear kit as well. As Peter O'Toole once said, "The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts."

I haven't stopped smiling all day.

Hope this has been of help; I'll resurrect the thread if any new info pops up~

I still haven't installed my rear shocks. Being that mine has the 1/4 elliptic springs, there is some modifications needed to get the shocks to fit (need to realign the bracket on the axle housing). I still have my homemade rear tube shock set-up, so it's not too bad. I just installed some shorter nylon axle straps and it seems to feel better in the rear......I really want to get those adjustable shocks in it though!

I plan on taking a road trip in a couple of weeks to visit a friend in Mississippi and another friend in Alabama......I might swing up through Tennessee on my way home. I would love to see your Midget and maybe get a ride in it with the entire Frontline kit installed.

You are welcome any time. I'm located in Dover, TN. It's in the Land Between the Lakes area.

There are only about 1400 residents. We have one street light. It sits right in front of the Courthouse and County Jail. You don't want to speed around here. Ask me how I know.

I can let you get a good test drive a few miles away on the 'Trace' running along LBL. Nice windy road. And it's outside city limits...

Good deal. I'll let you know when I'll be in the area as soon as I know. Right now it's looking like the first week in May, but that may change.
