T-Series Front wheel castle nut

I’m finishing the front suspension on my ‘52 TD and have a problem with the castle nut and cotter pin holding the wheel hub in place. The nut is tight but not advanced enough to expose the shaft for the cotter pin. The bearings are completely seated and the wheel tapped tight and then torqued with the nut.
Any ideas? The washer on the diagram is about a quarter of an inch thick. Is a thinner one available?

I would not torque the nut…they are meant to be tightened, then backed off a little.
Not sure where you found the torque spec?

Yes I did back it off, but found the hole through the spindle too small for a cotter pin because the nut wasn’t seated enough.

Would check that the inner bearing is seated.
Maybe use a smaller pin?

Smaller pin doesn’t fit either but I think you’re right about the bearings. They looked seated and stopped the press but an eighth of an inch would be enough to create the problem.
I’ll call Moss Motors tomorrow and ask about the thickness of the two washers they sell for under the castle nut. If one is thinner, great. Otherwise I’ll pull the wheels and press the bearings harder.

Single hole.
Moss will likely be slow. Could Chuck the nut in a lathe and take some material off the nut?

No, just one.

or could you add a washer or two as spacers?

edit: Loctite could also be a solution.

Me thinks the problem is the nut is too far past the hole…washers will only move the nut further from the hole.

Corrected the problem. The washers I was using were too thick and probably meant for the rear wheels. I went through my stock and found one that worked and confirmed it was correct when it matched the one I ordered from Moss. When I got the car it was almost completely disassembled so at times the project has been a puzzle.
