Moss (and others I suppose) sells a metal screen that goes beneath the chrome metal vent right in front of the windshield. I think this a great idea to keep unwanted leaves /debris from a fairly inaccessible location.

However, the screen prevents one from getting fingers inside to attach the blind fixes to the inderside of the metal grill. Has anyone installed one of these screens and if so HOW ?

Thats the million dollar question what I have doen is put a dab of silocone on each hole then position the screen and cover in hoping that the silcone will hold everything in place mine has been in place for severaal years no problem
 
There are little plastic "thingee's" that will push down in the hole from the top & have lips to sit on the body...then, the air grille just pushes down in them

326-655...blind fix.....it goes in the hole before the mesh or grille & then you just push the grille down in it.
 
I'm *such* a Cretin. I used a product called "Pet Screen" from Home Depot. A fiberglass re-enforced screening material to keep the cats INSIDE the house. Works good for that too but I cut a piece contoured to fit the chrome air vent, pegged it to the underside and stuffed the thing back onna car with RTV as the adhesive at the pin holes. Photo to follow when the sun comes up.
 
My car doesn't have the blind clips at all... And I really don't think the grille is going anywhere/
 
The clips weren't on this one, I replaced the bezel with a VB replica, it is WELL wedged in place without the clips as well. I just used the RTV as a "peace of mind" measure.
 
I used a couple dabs of silicon on the posts when I reinstalled the grill with the screen. It's very secure and it does look better with the screen there.
 
Guys, Thanks for the advise. I'ld like something a little more than silicone (not sure why exactly). Tony, Moss shows the "blind fix" on Pg 70 as 326-665. I have some of these, they are too large diameter to fit holes in body.

You gave me 326-655. Are these smaller diameter? or ? They also list 326-650 as fitting the rear boot lid motifs. I need for both and am confused which ones fit where?

Well, you can have the "stays" or you can have the screen... but you can't have both. No way to put the fasteners on (easily) with the screen in place. RTV will hold it quite well... unless you plan to "fly inverted" for a looong time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I ran into the same thing on my 77B. I ordered the blind fixes and could not figure out how to use them.

Here was my "fix".

I went to my small part bin and found some small plastic anchors (like the kind you use on sheetrock when screwing something into the wall) The anchors have to be the right size for the post on the vent grill and just the rigt size to fit tightly into the holes on the body. Works Great and it is removable with some light prying if necessary.
 
The number I gave you are the ones I use...possibly the paint has made the holes a tiny bit smaller.
 
Ya, know... I don't think mine is coming off even in a rollover... And I need to do a screen on it. But it is still just sitting in there. I have to finagel it so much to take it off, It'd almost be easier to remove if I pulled the center wiper arm first.
 
I installed a new grill with screen on the 72 and used the blind fix things that Moss sells and they work great. Two things to keep in mind, the holes must be clean and you should lubricate the little plactic sockets before installing them in the holes. They damage easily.
