TR6 Front sway bar links

Does anyone have a hint on how to compress the two rubber bushings on the sway bar links? I can barely get the nut on without the sway bar sandwiched between. With the sway bar in the mix, I can't come close to compressing the bushings enough. Looking forward to getting this done in case the weather ever warms up. I need to get on the road.

Can you crush them enough off the car and freeze them in a domestic food freezer then quickly one at a time fit before they expand ?
Or trim the bushes down ?
Or boil them in water to make them squishy enough to catch the nut ?

Thanks Jedi Knight. I will try the boiling water (in a coffee cup) tonight. I will have help as well, so that may be the perfect combo. I'll keep you posted.

Maybe jack the car or suspension up so that the end of the bar you are working on is compressing the inside bushing so the suspension is working with you on getting the nut started.
