removing the trunnion on both king pins, i noticed a thin shim that sits inside the trunnion housing and shims against the king pin. trouble is, one side has two shims and one shim is totally shreaded. none of the shims look in good condition. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gifi see that the VB catalog shows the shim but no part number. moss doesn't even show the shim on their exploded. any experience with these shims? are they necessary? sources? thanks

They are what set the vertical end play of the spindle to the upper trunion. Too many shims, and it's loose. Too few and you can't steer. They are not a thrust washer... they don't turn. They sit on the shoulder of the kingpin. They usually on get all bent up when removing the trunion. The big bronze washer is the bearing. If that were to wear a lot, then you'd remove shims to get the right end play. I have sent you an email with the source of these.
