MGB Front suspension question....

I have a question with regards to front suspension components:

I have my chrome-bumper B up on jackstands at the moment while I do work on the front bearings (previous owner apparently didn't use the shims and spacers, just set them up like a trailer wheel bearing - obviously never drove it since that was done since the grease in there is still perfectly clean). However, while having the wheels off to start taking that apart, I noticed that even though the jackstands are under the lower control arm (basically supporting the car directly beneath the spring cup) the front shock is fully down against the bump stop. Is it possible the previous owners could have installed too tall of a spring (like one for a rubber-bumper model)?

May be attach some pics will give a better idea what you are referring to. I just finished building front suspension on my 74'B chrome.
Unless someone here has an idea just reading this.

I'll try to take some this weekend when I am up where the car is (it is at a rental space about an hour away from home).

I grabbed a couple of pictures this past weekend that illustrate the question:

The jackstand is directly under the spring cup and nothing else is holding weight. This pic clearly shows the lever shock resting at the lower stop.

Same thing but showing the jackstand.

When the wheels are back on and holding the weight, the shock lever lifts up about 1/2 to 3/4 on a inch from the stop. I would have expected it to be more in the middle of the travel which is what made me question if I have the right springs. Both sides behave identically.

Make sure the top of the spring is in it’s proper seat, look up through the bottom of the spring, sometimes it hangs up on the cup that centers the spring and it will make the front ride high. Happened to me.
