front suspension or braking improvement

i installed the drivers side rear spring yesterday and will do the other side today. my center of the rear wheel arch to the floor was 25 inches and after installation of the spring it was 27 inches....quite noticeable when looking at the car from the rear. i bought the springs from jule enterprises. ive noticed on other threads that lots of various methods were used to bring the spring up to the axle perch. my spring was approximately 1.5 inches below the perch.....but the ubolts that jule furnished are much longer than stock and i just snugged them up without resorting to jacks and straps or boards. i will most likely cut a bit of the remaining threads off once i am satisfied that all is well with my diy installation. i hope to get the shock conversion kit in a couple of days.
 
i was able to take the healey out this morning to check out the new rear springs. what a difference over my old worn out springs. the car was firm but not stiff and did not bottom out on even some of the worst dips in the highway. i am very pleased with the jule springs. putzke shock conversion kit is due today. particularly anxious to feel how well the front end responds to the tube shock conversion.

I'm guessing the back end's going to be more important because of the proximity of a** to rear axle.
 
I love the ride and handling of the Udo kit.

As Steve G. said, I did move my exhaust to just behind the rear wheel. The side exhaust (in front of the rear wheel) was fun for a maximum of 20 minutes per ride... then it got to be too much. Moving the exhaust behind the rear wheel greatly reduced the in cabin sound level... in fact, I even like the sound tone better. But, moving the exhaust that short distance, while it sounds easy if you say it fast, is quite a project. The curves are all mandrel bends so there shouldn't be any great increase in back pressure.

well finally finished installing udos shock conversion kit and jules rear springs! first impression is... much better ride and sense of the car being more planted on the highway. steve, i think you are right about the rear shocks greatly improving the feel of the rear of the car. i guess i will most likely order the four piston brake kit today from british spares. it is a bolt on kit and looks to be very lightweight... thanks from all the ideas and suggestions from the healey experts!!!!
