front shroud to fender welt

I was argueing with Ken Freeze about the vinyl welt that goes between the fender and front shroud (between the headlight and the parking lights). My 59 has silver welt, Ken has silver welt. My car came with a lot of the rubber parts. The welt that was in the box was black.
Any chance there is black welt used also?

From the Concours Registry:

On the BN1 and BN2 cars, this was black vinyl/plastic having a "T" cross-section about 3/16-inch wide and slightly rounded. (Note: the only material of this shape available today is 1/4" wide, it is recommended to carefully preserve and re-use the original piping.)

For all 6-cylindar cars a silver vinyl/plastic was used having a round 3/32-inch diameter bead.

That confirms the silver. Now I wonder what this piping is that is black. It has a round bulb, 1/4 inch diameter at the end of 1 inch tab that looks just like the silver stuff.

Any ideas?

Jerry
