Front Shocks

Guys,

I need some advice on front shocks. Of the 2 pictured, any idea which is actually correct for a BJ7. The black one came out of my car. I bought the copper colored one is a spare with a lot of miscellaneous parts from a gentleman cleaning out spare parts after he sold his car (it was a 100-6).

The only difference that I see is that the lever on the copper colored one is shaped a little differently, and is about .375 longer. Also, generally when I see pictures of AH lever shocks, they look more like the copper colored shock.

The reason I ask, is that my car has negative camber on the driver side. Suspension components seem tight, much of it is new. Can't seem to find anything bent or loose.

The extra length would help improve my geometry.

The only glitch......passenger shock looks like the black one. Also, no camber issue.

Any thoughts appreciated, Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!

Several models of British cars used that design, and color is no indication. Mine are both black. Are there part numbers cast into the lever arms?

Thank you very much, I will check the numbers, but this info is awesome. I think you have put me on the right track. I appreciate it!

It would be great to know which arms where fitted to which cars that shared the same shock body. I know some wolesley models used shorter arms which fit our cars but have the benefit of giving us negative camber . So far I ve not been able to establish just which models are the ones to search for though.

I am actually of the feeling that the black shock absorbers with the shorter levers were never proper for my car, and came off another car. Maybe and MG? I have only had the car a few years and it came to me in very rough shape. I have already found more that one instance where the wrong parts were installed by a PO.
I appreciate the help.

Below are some pictures of the commonly used Armstrong 6075 shocks (1B4459), with the corresponding arm numbers.

I hope this helps.
