Front Shock Shims?

"Whenever I see these "tuner cars" lowered down to within an inch of the ground, I wonder what they steer like?"

Crap! (or at least the two that I have driven). My brother has a very fast eclipse turbo, but he can't keep up with my midget on selected roads. It has tons of understeer, and if you brake hard and hit a bump with the outer front it cuts back straight FAST. It does all sorts of strange things that are hard to explain, but in a straight line (with the NOS) it is a thrill.

I need to find a cheap, used NOS setup for the GRM car! for the drag portion of the Challenge

Yes you can do that but you have to know which way to go. SOOOO you kinda have to get on a drawing board and graph it out to see what is happening. Ya kinda have to re-engineer the whole thing. Change one thing and it changes the whole mess.

What usually happens is guys change a thing or two, make things worse. Then they put really stiff springs(because someone tells them to) in and it gets better...only because they have tied down the thing and now have almost zero suspension movement. If the suspension does not move you have no bump steer. See it all the time at the track.

The first car I built, I did all the wrong stuff. I moved the rack, lowered the ride height, changer the shock location, etc. I would hit a rough road at speed and the car would literally change lanes several times in a couple of seconds with no driver input or control. I could be in the center lane, hit a rough patch and go to the left lane, back across the center lane into the right lane and back again. Zero control as to what was happening.
I started reading after that.

Nial, you are correct. I was thinking camber, and typed caster. I did reference the approximate camber change for a given shim thickness.
I went back and edited the original post, so I don't look the total fool.
Nice catch. Thanks.

Suspension is fun to play around with and sometimes the results are confounding. If you look at ~THIS PICTURE~ you will see that my green car is fairly flat, but the blue Spridget behind me is leaning more. His car often lifts a front wheel in turns and mine never does. Surprisingly, the blue car has much stiffer springs and sway bar than mine.....but it can be other variables. He is running sticky Hooziers compared to my DOT tires. And it could be just more aggresive driving too (picture taken at Big Bend-Lime Rock).

Hey, I own that car now. All the pictures this year will be aft forward. I just hope there are none that are greasy side up!

I was thinking of buying it ... but then realized I shouldn't be spending that kind of money without a job (as of yet, at least)! Hope it works out for you!
