Front End Clunk

Finished rebuilding front & rear suspension on my '70B. Took weekend trip and drove about 450 miles. Developed a clunk when braking on the way back. Put car up last night and re-tightend all bolts on front suspension and rear suspension. Better but still a small clunk when braking. Any ideas?
 
Hmmmmm...suspension would the first thing to check, but I guess that's OK in this case.

Loose shock mount bolts? Or loose shock arm? Loose drum brake backing plate bolts/parts (rear) or loose caliper bolts (front)? Exhaust or emegency brake mechanism "fouling" other parts as suspension moves? Loose or worn steering rack?

How about something rolling around in the trunk? ....or maybe one of the batteries is not tied down?

Motor or trans mount?

All shock mounting bolts, steering lever bolts, servo bolts also tightened to correct torque. Did not check motor mounts or front crossmember to body bolts. Steering rack also OK. Will keep looking. Thanks for the help.

Check the adjustment on the rear brakes. My left brake needed adjustment (after replacing the brake cable), causing the same issue.
 
Do you have wire wheels? My '68 'B GT does. When I first bought it I heard a clunk not while braking, but just as I stopped. I belted the knockoffs tighter and it went away. Now when tightening the wheels I use the lead mallet and tighten until they hardly move with a pretty good swing. That may sound vague, I can't describe it any better. Keep them greased so that when loosening and tightening, you aren't working against friction.

If you don't have WW's, or you're sure their tight, check the swivel axles (kingpins). I forget - why did you rebuild the front end? Was the clunk there before? Did you replace/rebush the kingpins?

Front End rebuilt because of poor handling and clunking all the time. A-arm holes were ovaled and one shock was totally shot and leaking. Replaced swival axles, all bushes, a-arms, springs, shocks, tie-rod ends and steering gaiters. handles terrific now but still has some clunks. Next project is replacing u-joints. Do have wires, and are tight.
 
I found my clunck it was the rubber pad between the from cross member and the frame rail had rotted and fallen out replaced and voila no more clunck
