Did you guys know that the first MGB prototype (EX220) was front-wheel drive? I didn't. Just found this and a bunch of other neat stuff (a HydroElastic Sprite!) on the Keystone MG (Pennsylvania) website:

In fact, I can't think of any FWD roadsters...where there ever any made by anyone?

Sure.
The presently-built Audi TT, the Austrailan-built "Mercury Capri" (it had a Mazda drivetrain) and the Isuzu-powered Lotus Elan M100 that had a short run in the '90s.
There is a company in the UK that offers a replica Bugeye kit built on a fwd Mini chassis....maybe other "specials" too.
I agree with you, though....rwd is the way to go with a roadster
 
The current Fiat Barchetta-one of the world's best looking cars, IMHO-is FWD, based off the old Tipo drivetrain.

My memory is fallible, but I don't think this was intended to be an MGB prototype, but a FWD sports car based on Mini platform. If anything, it might have replaced the Spridget.
