General MG Front Coil Spring Comparison MGB verses a MG TF

When I re installed my front springs on the TF, I measured them for height and they were both the same, but the right side sets slightly higher than the left. I miked the coils and the right spring coils are .008 thicker than the right! Could the right spring be from an MGB put in there in the past? PJ

Note, Moss part numbers are different for the TF and MGB. In fact I notice MGB uses two different springs, one for the CB cars and another for the RB cars.

IIRC that RB and attendant assembly weigh in at 150 pounds at both ends. Massive disadvantage to an already anemic engine. :madder:

Makes sense. The GT was heavier than the roadster by about 300 pounds as well. Lid and rear door/glass, larger windscreen.

Checking the springs again, it seems like the right spring isn't seated correctly up in the cross member. I could be wrong, but using a thin metal strip, I poked it up in the top around the spring and there seems to be a lip I'm hitting on the right but not on the left spring. There's a flange up there called a spigot, that the spring is supposed to wrap around and I'm wondering if it's hung up on one side. Only way to be sure is to pull the entire assembly apart. If the coil is hung up on one side, that would cause the height difference. If the spigot is messed up, I'll have to pull the shock also to get to the screws that hold it in place. Oh well, what else is new! :grumpy: PJ
