How different is the TR-4 front bumper from the TR-2 ? I don't understand why you can get a 4 bumper for under $200 and they want $500 for a 2?

Possibly because a comparable condition TR2 will cost 2½ times as much as a TR4 (i.e. whatever the traffic will bear)?

The bumpers are different.

I'm afraid it has to do with "batch" sizes. For any part you have to pay the initial tooling costs, whether you manufacture 1 or 1 million. So, with very few TR2's, the batches of repro TR2 bumpers are small, and the tooling cost per unit is higher. For the TR3/4, there are more units made, so the tooling costs get diluted per unit.

Of course...it is also possible the supplier gouges for keeping slow moving parts on his shelf!?!

I think the TR2 bumpers are different from all the others I got mine from groupharrington.com good price good quality S/Steel they are hand made in Vietnam.

I am not sure, but John would know, but I think an early tr3 is the same as a tr2.
Yes, TR2 and and early TR3 bumpers are the same. The TR3A bumpers are different.
I also checked the prices from Moss. A few years back the TR3A bumpers were much cheaper. Moss solved that problem by raising the Price on the TR3A bumpers to that of the TR2s. The over riders are separate and another 150 bucks (The TR2 over riders are NLA from Moss I think). I wonder if the aftermarket stainless bumpers have the correct over riders for the early bumpers.
I think there is as much research done as to what the traffic will bear than there is into the cost of production.
