A few weeks ago I had the little problem of the short out and fire in the wire leading from my electronic ignition (or to it). Many of you were kind to offer advice such as "put the points back in". I could not locate them, so I replaced the EI with a new one. Problem solved, works just fine. New problem. On a recent trip I came to a stop sign. Pedal right to the floor. No brakes at all. just had the front brakes redone and the hoses replaced. I checked the fluid level.....none was present.

I bought some new fluid, and filled the little tank, expecting to find the source of the leak when I steped on the pedal. Well, pedal still goes to the floor, no fluid is leaking out, and I don't know where to go next. Help!
 
Hi Rick, You have one of two problems. 1] because the fluid reservoir ran dry there will be air in the brake lines and you will need to bleed the brakes. 2]The master cylinder has failed. Could be both but lets hope not. Try bleeding the brakes first to see if you can get a firm pedal.---Fwiw---Keoke
 
As Keoke said, once the fluid drops below a critical level on the master cylinder reservoir it will suck in air and the system will need to be bled. You may want to carefully wash off all the wheel cylinders and brake line fittings prior to bleeding the system so you can look for the leak as you suggested.
 
If fluid is disappearing from the reservoir and not visibly leaking then it is most likely in the wrong area of the servo. (vacuum side) If you do not have a servo then look where the pedal push-rods go into the master cylinders.

Not suppose to be a servo its a BT7. Even if it had one large clouds of white smoke would be following him around.---Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

If you have a BJ8 (or some BJ7s and BT7s with servo) it could be leaking into the brake servo.

If your car doesn't have a brake servo, have a looksie inside the pedal box underneath the brake master where it comes through the firewall... usually if you can't find the leak it will because the master is leaking into the cockpit and you don't notice the fluid because it's really under your feet, not under the car where you've been looking!
