Funny thing is, I have a friend who travels a lot and said I sound like I'm from Philly. It said or somewhere around the Jersey area and all I could think of was Jersey Shore......AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

Well, Billy, to hear some of the 'Yats and the folks from the old Irish Channel in New Orleans, you'd swear they're from the Bronx! At least that's the way it was a while back.

Philadelphia! Not. Originally Massachusetts. Guess when you live in New Mexico and mix that with equal parts of Massachusetts, you get Philadelphia. There'sa crack in somebody's bell and I know it's not mine.

I think that it's because pronunciation of some words in the Boston accent is similar to English pronunciation. I'll allow that the quiz is set up just for youse 'Murricans.

At the age of 12 we moved from Louisiana to Burbank, Ca. In 1958. I had a very thick Southern accent and was thrust into Cal, the land of no accent. Mrs. Polson, my seventh grade teacher, made me stand in front of the class and say words like OIL and I. They sounded ULLE and AYHHI. All the kids laughed.

I never forgave that woman

I vowed to lose my Southern accent and blend in. I listened to radio incessantly and very quickly affected a Southern California accent, iow, no accent.


I never forgot that time, almost 55 years ago
