Friend's son missing

I'm not sure if this has made the national news, but the son of a friend of ours has been missing in the Colorado mountains since Friday. Kyle Kerschen, 27, son of friends of ours, and his friend Michael George went snowboarding at Wolf Creek, Colorado and have not been heard from since Friday 4 Jan 08. Kyle had a cell phone with a GPS but it was found in the trunk of his car. Severe weather has been hampering search efforts.

Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

You got it, Boss.

That's awful. Are these guys experienced? The age would seem to indicate so.

Hoping for good news soon.

They are both experienced snowboarders, but sometimes conditions at 13,000 feet can be pretty brutal even for someone experienced in the outdoors. Winter sports experience is not necessarily the same as winter survival experience. I just hope the two are able to put their heads together and figure a way to get shelter and survive until they can be found. Reports are that severe weather is hampering search efforts.

Of this, I am acutely aware.

Keeping fingers crossed.

Heard they just found some skiiers/snowboarders alive & well - was that his group, Basil?

There were two sets of snowboarders missing, one pair was locally lost and the other two (my friend's son) lost in Colorado rockies. The pair lost in NM were found...one had a cell phone and able to call 911.
My friends son is still missing. He had a cell phone with GPS but left it in the trunk of his car. Still praying for a good outcome.

That must be tough - knowing you want to,but can't
do anything to help find them.
I want a happy ending.

Prayers sent!

Those Ski areas have several small shelters located along their slopes. We can only pray that perhaps they located one of the shelters and are riding out the storms. We all feel the pain of the parents, friends and family. They will be in our prayers.

As of Tuesday night 6:30PM they have not been found. This will be their 5th night. And then there's this:

"The area where the two men are believed to have gone missing has received more than 4 feet of snow in the past three days, Mineral County Sheriff Fred Hosselkus said."

Not a good sign. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I read that there is a couple lost in the same area. The couple got a cell phone call out on Sunday, but they haven't been found either. From what I understand, the helicopters are dividing their time between the two searches.

saw on the news tonight they were found ok. Holed up in a stocked cabin.

No, that was a different couple that were found...near Santa Fe NM. Kyle and his fried are missing in Wolf Creek, Colorado - and they are still missing. Its confusing because there were ten people missing all around the same time - 6 Snowmobilers (found). 2 Snowboarders near Santa Fe, NM (found)(that's who you are thining of) and 2 Snowboarders missing in Wolf Creek Colorado Since. (Kyle and Michael). They have not been found yet.
