Fresh Air Vent Hose

Gentlemen:

Even though my car is still not moving in a forward direction (we will attempt to bleed the clutch again this weekend), I continue to put it back together. But now I need more advice:

- I'm looking for a fresh air vent hose that runs into the heater blower. I recall reading on this board that the replacements sold by Moss and VB are inferior knock offs.

Someone on Ebay regularly sells one that he says is made of oil cloth, like the original. His price is about $60 with shipping.

Can anyone give me some pointers on the best source for an air hose? Is there a better one available? What are you using?

I got an old plastic one from a local British car wrecking yard. Looks authentic.
Trouble is, when I install it I inevitably have some electrical problem and have to remove it again.

I don't know what an original looked like. I want one that is black. I've seen some pretty nice ones in photos.

Motormite or some company with a name something like that makes fresh air hose in something very similar to what was original. It comes in the defrost tube size and the 4" heater intake size.
I am pretty sure you can still find it at an RV or camper accessories store. It used to be available at real auto parts stores simply by asking for 4" fresh air hose but today they need a year, make, and model and they don't have a clue.
Also Marinas sell a 4" hose but it is rubber based and/or plastic, it will work and doesn't look all that bad.
And then there is good ole dryer vent tube.
It looks really bad but it works.

I used to drive a corvair in HS that had two heater inlet hoses under it for the exchanger. Rubber hoses that rotted out some 20 years prior Im sure. $90 for originals. 4" dryer duct and some black spray primer and no one knew the difference!

Here is my newly installed Moss fresh air vent hose... don't think it's like the original, but much better than the silver aluminum dryer hose that was there!, it did fit well & was easier to install than I thought it would be.

You can also go to Home Depot, get some aluminium drier ducting and a can of flat black, and stop off at the pub on the way home and enjoy your change!!! :wink: :thumbsup:

I bought one from Ashley Hinton. Nothing more than four inch corrugated black plastic drain pipe. That's the only time I've bought from him and been disappointed. Below is a source I now intend to use.

Trevor, I buy 50 feet of that annually for just this application. I sell it for $5.00/ foot you need 4 feet for a Bugeye. Many of the places that sell it, industrial supply people) only sell it in that bulk length.

I bought some a few years back for my woodworking shop (4"). As I recall you could buy it by the foot. Can't remember which vendor, but it was either Highland Hardware or Wood Workers Warehouse...both are (were) on the web.
