Fresh air intake

Will this madness ever stop?
My newest aventure.

The dash reads Fresh Air. The knob reads pull.
Pull for fresh air?

Mine, when in the pull position, it shuts off the air.

How could I have connected it wrong?
Attached photo will show the trunnion in the pull position when the knob is in the out, pull postion. The trunnion moves to the back of the car.

When looking thur the grill, into the air vent, I see it closes the flap. What?

Pushing the knob in the dash, moving the trunnion forward opens the inside flap.

Is that correct?
If not, what do I need to do, to reverse it.

Thank you, Roger

Keoke, are you saying my set up is correct?

Pull the cold air knob out, to close the vent?

Hi Roger,
I vaguely remember assembling mine wrong the first time. (Luckily, before installing) If memory serves me, the flapper can be reversed on the shaft to close the other way.

Hi Greg,
What do I need to do to reverse it?

Do I need to remove the metal cylinder from the car?
How is the flapper installed?

Roger,
Mine was assembled wrong at the factory. It worked the opposite as the labeling said it should work. I reversed the mechanism at the inlet valve but I had to " notch " out a small piece of frame metal to provide clearance for the end of the flapper arm to move. It must have been wrong from day 1 at the factory.

Hello! Page 11 of the "Drivers Hand Book" :
-----------Air Intake Control; A supply of cold air can be obtained by pulling out the knob. I Prefer it the other way around it make more sense. It be a bugger to get at when the car is fully assembled. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif---Keoke

Keoke, page 11 does say, "a suppy of cold air, entirely independent of the heater unit, can be admitted to the car interior for ventilation purposes by pulling out the
knob on the left-hand side of the heater control panel."

Not what happens with my car. I pull the knob out, it closes the flap, no air.

I think the front lever on top of the vent is on the wrong side. Maybe if I have it pull when on the left side, it will open the vent? Now, as seen in attached photo, it pulls on the right side and closes the vent.

How about you guys. Which side does it pull from?
Roger

Roger, IMOP, the people that wrote the Hand book did not know which way around the thing worked. This vent like all other unique bits on the car came from some other car's bin which included the inscribed knobs. All of my car's work just like yours---Keoke

You get air thorugh the vent?????Wow! I gotta role them windows down and open the wind wings. Just kidding. I've often woundered about that, too. And why even put the vent doors in the foot wells.

I am home now. I'll take some pictures.
Back in a few minutes.....
Here is mine. I had to take it apart
to put the flap on the other side plus
notch out the frame a little in order to
make it work like it was labeled.

Living in Iowa, this time of year, I can assure you that pulling the left hand knob out allows a healthy flow of outside (cold!) air into the cockpit. Pushing it in shuts off the flow and soon the engine/transmission heat makes it feel like I live in California. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Roger,
Here are the red LEDs as seen looking up under the edge of the dash. There are three on each bracket and three more in the top of the glove box.

But you can't normally see them as they are hiding under the edge of the cowl/dash..

Please don't shoot me but I had to put some switches somewhere. The top one is for courtesy lights. The middle one is for the red LEDs. The bottom one is power to the radar detector.

OH MY GOODNESS,Ain't nutin like Iiving in CA. However, If you have; "Original Austin Healey" by Anders Clausager. Page 57, MK 11 picture, clearly shows that the lever's position points inboard and rests towards the fire wall.---Keoke

--Good you didn't get hosed ED.

Should have put Light Switches in all the single throw switch positions.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
