Stay away from muriatic acid for derusting. Muriatic goes into the pores of the metal and is real hard to get out with a soak in something to neutralize the acid like baking soda. Phosphoric is much better suited for this because it changes the runt into something alone the lines of iron phosphate and keeps the rust from starting again.
