Free Dunlop Gold Seal 5.20 13 bias ply tyre

If anyone wants a touch of possible authenticity, I've got a Dunlop Gold Seal 5.20 13 bias ply tyre with pretty much 100% tread, sitting on a BE rim, from our Bug-Eye that we bought in 71 and has been stored ever since.

I'm off to the tire shop to get it dismounted later today but will keep the tire around for a week in case someone is interested enough to want it and pay for the shipping. There's no obvious damage/checking/cracking.

Doug, I'm going to suggest that the tire be used decoratively only - a tire that old will not be safe on any car.
 
Dang! I should've put that in big RED LETTERS! The tire holds air, but it would be strictly decorative! Our yellow bug-eye's tyres look brand new, but are probably about 8 years old, and they'll be getting junked when Spring arrives

I have the five original Dunlop Gold Seal Wide Whitewall tyres that my '62 Sprite left the factory with. They are still mounted on the car and all hold air. While I don't "drive" on the street with them I do drive it on and off it's trailer and onto the show fields. These have almost all of their tread as they only have 1747 original miles on them.

I had the tyres (if they were Goodyear, they'd be tires of course!) dismounted and the Dunlop, did, indeed, survive the experience. Just blackwall, I'm afraid - not whitewall.

Biff: do you do anything in particular to preserve the appearance of your side walls? One of the tire guys I deal with advised that he didn't like the commercial wheel dressings, and figured wiping them down (carefully to avoid spillage) yearly with brake fluid was the way to go, as the brake fluid would be compatible with all rubber types and help keep the rubber from drying out. I've got some 20 or so year old Pirelli's on the original wire wheels for our A-H 3000 that I figure I'll keep, in case I ever want to show (not drive) it in more original condition than with the current wide wire wheels.
