I have a Shuttle SB-51G system here with a bad motherboard and power supply. Anyone have a use for what's left? I hate throwing away such cool-looking stuff.

Do you know what's wrong with the MB? I tried to get a small form factor board once, but they only seem to come bundled with the box.

Honestly I'm not sure. The machine started intermittantly acting strange... power lamp came on but never reached the post screen. I should have suspected the power supply but I didn't act fast enough. Sure enough the PSU was going bad and it took out the mobo.

I tested the PSU and it failed the low voltage IIRC. I put a new PSU in the machine and it still wouldn't post, so I assume something on the MOBO gave up from the low power. It may be an easy fix but I chose to just replace the entire unit. It's in perfect condition other than the fact that it doesn't work! LOL!

If you're handy with electronics I would bet money you can fix it. I also have a 2.4ghz CPU I might be persuaded to let go with it. I think it still has a couple sticks of RAM in there, too.

Well, since the tranny was a “no go” maybe the shuttle will make a nice mail box the wife would like. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif Otherwise I could grab it next weekend if you are around. I could even trade it for a pizza (large no less) from Patty’s. They have take and bake so you don’t have to worry about it getting cold, only rising. Suppercar Sunday?

I think I might even share that Pizza with you. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Unfortunately I'm working next Sunday but I may be able to squeak by there early. Or possibly drop it to you since I'm working downtown and I'll probably take the coast home.

I used those Shuttle "shoebox" thingies as a platform for firewall appliances. "SmoothWall" Linux kernel. Not easy to find parts for, tho. But they're impressive to my clients. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I've built numerous Shuttle mini computers. This is the first one I've had go bad, and it didn't have a lot of use on it. It was my wife's computer and barely got used.

I did find a replacement motherboard, but by the time I bought that, the PSU and whatever else I needed, it wasn't much less than a completely new bare bones system.

Hi Steve,
Before you get rid of it, have you tried putting a different processor in? A bad CPU would keep you from POSTing. Bad memory would at least get some text on the screen before it locked up. The only spare CPU I have is a 370 pin pentium 3. Sounds like that would be yesterdays news for the Shuttle.

I put the P4 2.4 CPU from that machine into another and it worked. It's probably one small component that failed on the Shuttle mobo but I have no desire to figure it out, and have no use for another computer anyway.
