Frame stripping started- added pics 11-03

Just in time for Dale's return. This has been a busy few days and these are some of the pictures of the work in progress.

There is nothing left under the car to get in the way, so this project will be done right.
 
Some additional shots. We found one bad spot that had a hole about the size of a dime. It's been cut out and boxed back in on both layers, inner and outer.

Fortunately, the built in design of oil leaks does add protection to the chassis of these cars. Lots of scrubbing and cleaning under way.
 
This is what mine needs.
 
Roof, I've been accumulating chassis parts for two years to get this done as smoothly as possible. I bought brake and suspension parts every time that there was a sale and I thought that I had everything.

I started getting the powder coated parts together last week and realized that I was missing a bunch of bolts and nuts to assemble the control arms, etc., that don't come in the suspension kit. I also forgot to send four brackets to the powder coater, so I had to get those done in a little bit of a rush.

Luckily, I have an original TRF Green book from years ago and was able to sit down with all of the pieces on the bench and determine what to order to fill in the gaps.

I have a box that came yesterday that I have to unpack and start to put the pieces in place to take to the shop later this week after the POR15 sets up and dries.

There's a guy in Puerto Rico, who's got a great running TR6 that needs no more work done to it for a while. He's probably getting antsy about now and he may just be looking for some work to keep him busy.

His is very meticulous, and artistic in his color selections for suspension parts. Another side benefit is that he does his own powder coating on site as well.

You may want to look him up. I'm sure that he'll be around soon.
 
WOW! that looks like a lot of work, you have my admiration!

Looking at it it does not seem like it would have been much more to raise the body. Obviously you must feel it would not be.

Hope everything goes well and you do not find any bad surprises!

I thought about raising the body, but after getting everything fitting well over the last two years, I decided against it. Believe it or not, I'm fighting shipwrights disease as we speak, so don't tempt me anymore.

The body mounts are in surprisingly good shape, so I', leaving that for another time (or owner!).

We hammered along the entire frame and body and the only bad surprise on the frame is the spot in the previous picture and that is now cut out and repaired stronger than new. Erik will be spraying the Waxoyl or equivalent inside the frame and body panels after this is done.

I do have a tiny spot on the RF Fender and LR rocker that are going to get checked after this is done. Oddly, they are under the coating on the sides and it's hardly worn off at all. By spring I will have washed off the undercoating that was sprayed on the rocker areas and will have checked that out. It all feels really solid, but there is a bare spot in each area that may or may not need attention. I'll strip it all off over the winter and then take it to my buddy's body shop if needed.

That is certainly easy enough to repair and respray with undercoating after it's all fixed.

Thanx but I think I'd rather keep my car as far away from Pedroism as possible. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif(no offence to Dale he does nice' work)

Maybe someday I'll get the nerve to completely strip down the beast, but for now she's built to drive!

I'm wondering out loud here. As proven time and again,
old Tinster knows next to nothing about auto mechanics.

So I'm thinking that since I also have an old TRF green
book; you should box up them nasty, dirty old TR6 car
parts and ship them to me. It would be a great learning
experience as I try to figure out how the pieces go
together.

golden trunnions set off against your other colors.

Hello, Paul, have you/are you going to beef up the diff mounts, while you're in there? Looks like another well-executed project; good luck!
