TR4/4A frame dimensions?

I'm replacing the left rear fulcrum bracket and need to confirm the outside to outside dimension. My shop manual has every dimension except the distance from left to right fulcrum bracket. Mine was so buggered up that the measurement was unreliable. I've attached a photo of how I measured outside to outside on the front brackets and found them to be 18.5". Are the rear the same dimension? Would someone confirm this for me. Thanks, Jamie

Jamie,

I am reluctant to answer your question because I am not positive of what you are measuring. What is referred to as the chassis fulcrum bracket is the one that has the two bolt holes in it and is welded to the frame. There is one in front and one in rear on each side. If this is what you are talking about, then I get 19.5 inches on front and 19.5 inches back brackets and this is the inside to inside measurements. And they are both the same. Hope this helps.

I just happen to have a TR4A IRS frame sittin' in my back yard holdin' up my still so I went and got some measurements for ya. I have to assume that it is some effect from the photo tossing a bit of curvature into your picture, but on this frame which is in pretty good shape, those frame rails are parallel and I measured outside edge of rail to outside edge adjacent to the front arm mounts at 22" for both the forward and rear mounts. For the other measurement, it was difficult to get inside those mounts and get a consistent measurement so I decided to measure from the outer edge of the frame rail to the outer upright face of the mounts and all four measured 2".

Thinking about the application for the four arms where LH forward and RH rear arms are the same and LH rear and RH forward are the same, it would make sense that the transverse measurements of the frame should be the same at both the front and rear mounts as well as the inset dimension for the mount bodies themselves.

Now since I couldn't just go out to the still without drawing off a big sample, so if you'll 'scuse me, it's Friday night, I'm full as a tick from dinner, listenin' to Stonedhenge on WREK* and I'm fixin' to get lit.....
