Frame and Engine Compartment Paint

The ground up restoration my BJ7 is finally ready for paint (Old English White). What kind of paint should I use on the frame, and should I use the same on the engine compartment, wheel wells, etc (e.g., Imron, a poly, the same paint I'm using on the body)? My painter says to use the same paint as on the body, but I'm worried that he's just taking the easy way out.

Well along the KISS bit you could Powdercoat the entire chassis a bit more expensive but much more resistant to damage over the life of the car.---Keoke
 
Tony, I too painted my car OEW and after thinking it over painted the entire chassis and backs of fenders doors and all with base coat clear coat. Looks very nice, Back in the 70's I painted trucks for a concrete bussiness and I used imron on all the trucks and mixers.(big job spraying a concrete truck) The imron held up really well. Imop use the same product everywhere,you won't have to buy a bunch of other kinds of materials and you can use whatevers left on other panels. Bob

Keoke, I did have my exhaust manifold powder coated. I haven't run it long enough to know if it will hold up. Any pros or cons to powder coat on the intake or exhaust manifolds?
 
I am not sure BlueRidge1, but the melt temperature of powder coat is 450 Deg. I would expect the exhaust manifold to considerably exceed this temperature. JetHot seems to be the preferred coating for exhaust manifolds.---Fwiw---Keoke
 
The powder coater I use also provides a ceramic coating designed for high temp use. I used that on my MGB five years ago, and it still looks new. I just recently had the Healey exhaust done in the same process. I chose a charcoal color that looks a lot like cast iron. The original exhaust manifolds were painted with the rest of the engine, and promptly burned off with use. The ceramic coating is much more attractive, if not concours. Beware, however, it's not cheap. I paid $100.00 for the two Healy manifolds. Your standard powder coating will not work, I don't believe.
