Found the problem with blowing my oil filters

Kurtis--thanks for the filter link. The filters I got from Moss only came with one gasket, the wrong one apparently. I just never think of checking for this stuff locally. They always give me such a strange look at the parts counters.

I've bought lots of parts for my TR4 and Sprite at Napa, AutoZone and O'Rileys... usually a lot cheaper than Moss (or other mail order places) and even if they don't have the part in stock (and usually they don't), they can get it within a couple of days - with no shipping cost.

Everybody has a thought and mine is if you are thinking of an oil cooler, now is the time. Another one of those things you won't regret. I'll also admit to a lot of oil on the drive and the street about 25 yrs ago(maybe 2 houses down the street) before I caught the error of my ways. Thankfully, I caught it in time.

I found a spin on adapter in the parts bin from the PO, thought I'd put in on, wondering why it was off. It leaks like the devil, probably why it was off. Seems the gasket (that fits the channel in the housing and the adapter plate is supposed to mate with) is too short, doesn't come up above the level of the channel. Wondering if the above mentioned filter comes with the right gasket (o-ring). Don't care about the filter but the taller o-ring is what I'm after.
 
I don't think I'm going to come up with a square cross section o-ring/gasket for this. Maybe have to resort to Right Stuff this stuff again.
 
I have a 948 org engine and oil filter canister type on my car I belive its called a teclemite? has a extension piece between the block and the housing.
I converted it to except a conventional cartridge type filter.
I drilled out the hole that the rod screwed in to to a 3/4" NPT pipe tap size.
Then taped the hole with a 3/4" pipe tap. Found a SS. close nipple and screwed it into the threads. Found a cartridge filter with the gasket that mated to the face of the housing.I have been running this setup for 5 years.
works great and it's a conversation piece when people see it the first time.

Since the square cross section o-ring in proper dimensions was too hard to come by, I went with no o-ring in the groove at all and instead filled it with Permatex Right Stuff. Haven't run the engine to check for leaks yet though.
