The correct oil for the A series box is a 20W/50 grade, however good brand name versions of this grade are no longer available unless you go to a specialist oil supplier. The other approach it to use a modern oil along with an additive such as that produced by STP, this not only thickens the oil but also improves its adhesive qualities so giving a smoother shift and less overall noise.
 
Hehe, yep. I just quoted something I found on the web.

I too feel good about the 20W50 Castrol. Think I always used 30W Castrol in engine and transmission long ago.
