I thought we suggested looking here.

Boy, that question was asked a while ago.
Doc's stick toitness shines strong

It was the Sunbeam forum, just put it there too.

That was me who originally asked about it. That cap was used on the Norton, Alpine, Tiger, and Elan. Repos are now available and I've seen originals for twice the price on eBay. Still looking for reasonably priced original in very good shape, but if I don't find one I'll just get one for $75 from RD Enterprises.

The cap shown on the Norton above isn't exactly the same as the Sunbeam cap. The Sunbeam cap has a rounded button for the latch and isn't as square shaped overall as that cap, although the squarer side may be just the way the photo is oriented.

Hmm. Well all I can say is, the same filler is on the Lotus' as the Norton. I guess Rootes used another style.

Interesting, all I've read says the Sunbeam and Lotus are the same. There is a Tiger here in town, next time I see him, I'll compare caps. I've ordered one for my car, just haven't seen it yet. I do believe they are the same though, since I've owned 2 Elans, and 6 Tigers and Alpines, my memory tells me they're the same. That being said, <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">"my memory is</span></span> <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">excellent, just short",</span></span> so I could be wrong.

The Sunbeam cap is NOT the same one as on the Norton or the Lotus. It is not even close.... Eric

Okay, now you know how bad my memory is! Eric is right as I tracked this down last week and realized that there is quite a difference. See pics below of Elan, Tiger, and Norton/BSA caps in that order.

I guess I need to buy another Tiger just because, well just because!

I know that Norton looked at using different filler caps over the years that the Commando was in production. They considered using the same cap that Triumph were using on the TRs and Spitfires.
