At the top of the forums list in the Announcements section is this post today.

Thought I'd point it out since many might not regularly check this forum.

I wonder if this has anything to do with many of the other forums (free-for-all, humor, other cars) being missing also.

It's not April 1... not Friday the 13th. Doesn't look like a joke.

Man... this would really suck.

Of course productivity across the country would increase dramatically if we weren't all goofing off here all day /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wonder if anyone would be interested in buying the site? I agree this would take a lot of fun out of my life. Hope it ain't so........

There's no doubt in my mind this announcement did not come easy for Basil. This forum has taken lots of time & effort to create, maintain & sustain so that we can all enjoy the passion for LBC cars that Basil does.
It is also a thankless job. Myself included, take it for granted that BCF will just be there when we click our mouse.

I know Basil has recently made an effort to increase advertising from vendors & being compinsated for his hard work would certainly be expected. So, I was wondering if a yearly membership fee might help keep things going. I for one would be more than willing. I am a member of several clubs I never attend , but support to sustain the mark & make sure the next generation have a chance to enjoy the friends & cars I have.

This forum is a wonderfull place to escape to & just involve youself with what you enjoy.

I would say it is not so much a lack of monetary compensation, as it is a lack of satisfaction, combined with a realization that he spends too much time running the place. Bas does have a life outside of the BCF, he has a job, a family, and a Jaguar resoration. It seems like he is always here though guiding the place, trying to maintain a certain level of fun and knowledge. I'm sure that after five years of this, he is finding it more tedious everyday to get on here and go through the motions of maintaing what has now become the status quo, while also trying to make the place even better. If he were to take a hiatus, from the forum, and temporarily shut it down, or decide to end the place permanently I'll support him, and thank him for the three years of good times I've had with my online LBC buddies.

Basil, I am truly sorry to hear this; and would like to thank you very much for all the enjoyment I and I am sure everyone else has had from your efforts.
I must say I feel a close relationship now with a number of people who post regularly, especially those active on the Triumph list and yourself!
Thanks.
Simon.

I too would be more than willing to pay for this site to continue. I pay club dues that I get nothing from and pay nothing to obtain a wealth of info here. Anybody doing a restoration surely would agree.

yeah - I'd definately pay but I bet Walter is right. The time involved is probably the factor.

Too bad- this has really turned into a great resource.

And at least from the Triumph end I find it a happier place than certain other "lists"

I wondering if the new knowledge base isn't working out as planned and maybe causing him grief. Would be sad to see this place go.

Basil,

I hope this isn't the finale for the BCF as it's a gem. I don't know what you envisioned when you started the site but there's nothing comparable on the web.

If there's action that we as members can take to continue your work, or cut into your workload, please share them with us.

Best wishes,

Jeff

When I first signed up three years ago as I was contemplating the resto on the TR3, there was very little posting compared to today. Sometimes it would be a week before someone responded to a post. I've seen it grow over this period of time to the point where the amount of knowledge, experience and expertise coming from all the members is just astonishing.

I will be very sad if somehow this forum doesn't continue. I will miss all of the wonderful posts by some very knowledgable enthusiasts that have helped me immeasuarably through my restoration.

Let us know how we can help Basil.

Art Liefke...LBC enthusiast since 1964.

Basil:
I offered before and I'll offer again. If you need help with the forum, to give you time to take care of the really important things in life, I'd be more than happy to help out. I have found this is probably the friendliest and most civil forum on the net. I would miss it...

I agree with all the feelings expressed above...

I haven't been here that long(coming up a year soon I think) but I have to say this forum has changed my outlook on our hobby greatly. Another thing that amazes me about this forum is the lack of hostility between members, every once in a while I venture over to a few other forums(usually Corvette and cadillac) and a good percentage of the post end in a argument between the members.....

I assume this has something to do with the missing pages(free for all, other cars etc.) but if it is so that Basil feels it necessicary to make some cut-backs to lower the workload then I support him all the way...Starting with the knowledge base given that it's the newest addition.

also I know Bas has always turned down all the offers to sell the forum in order to keep it in the best possible interest for us members, but if it comes down to selling or closing why not sell it? That way Bas gets some compensation for all the time and resources he has put into it and we still have a place to discuss our favorite topics.

Sorry about the long post.

Zack

I agree with all the above, this forum is one I look to for knowledge. So much experience out there and a lot of it is in one place, this forum. If there is something I can do to help keep things running, let me know. I think this site has turned into something great!

What we need is someone who doesn't have a life outside of the BCF and cars...(aside from my daughters, I guess that's me.)

Sammy, Jaybird has no life at all outside of here. Have you seen how many posts she has made in the past month?

I'll also echo the thoughts of others in this thread (and across the BCF). This group has been a great help to me over the last year in my search for a LBC, and has been very helpful as I've come to terms with old car ownership. I'm supportive of whatever Basil needs to do, and also offer my assistance (I'm a programmer and webmaster by trade) if it would help lessen the burdens.

Have any of you looked over at the MG forum. Not a mention of the forum possibly closing. The sky is falling and they are still talking about their cars. Go figure.

Bill

Thats because MG types have no class Bill. Now I have to go make a post about my TR.
