Not sure it is installed right now. I went through a nightmare upgrading to Mojave and am running a very limited number of apps right now. I guess this is how I'm going to find out what I'm missing.
If I miss the sound too much, I'll just click on Elliot's post a few times.

Never mind Java - do you have the latest Adobe Flask player installed? See my post above about losing sound, then getting it back after updating Flash.
 
Interestingly, it works fine with old Internet Explorer (though not Edge).

Easy way to find out. Open System Preferences and you should see the "Flash" icon (like in lower left in below picture). If you then click on that icon select the Update tab and you can check for updates.

I reinstalled Flash, still no sound. Restarted my iMac, still no sound. No problem, I'll survive.
 
Thankfully, no sound here.
