I have ethics dilemma, I am currently running an auction for my car,and as happens on an auction,there always is one person who takes umbridge at a discription,even though the discription is accurate. The problem here is, is the person does not stop the harrassement but decides to make a career out of it when the seller confronts his false allegations. He is sending numerous attack emails under multiple email names.Even gloating that he has caused damage to my auction. Unfortunately the seller (me) took the bait. I have contacted E-bay about this unfortunate set of events. Here is the real problem, I know who the harasser is, I have been following his car progress. You see this person is a fellow member of this forum. Until now he did not know I knew who he was. He has made totaly false accusations about my car and about me.I have written verifaction/documents for my car.He has also made totally false claims about his own car to me in an effort to discredit my car.Provable by his own written posts here on the forum. I know the right course to follow,but a big part of me wants to not do the right thing,and take it a full step further. I wont, but just saying it helps. Rant over,anger subsiding.... What would you (really) do in my situation.

Expose him, it is obvious he is playing a childens game with you. I read your ad, and looked at his feedback. He is a whiney baby for some reason who apparantly has it out for you. I would:
1.Expose him to the forum.
2. Discuss with Basil.
3. Turn him into ebay
4. Consider slander or other harassment suit.
He is apparantly jealous of you or your car(s) and is just as bad as these scammers. I would not reprint any more of his crap in your ad on ebay.
Expose him here.

I would not have put any of this guys comments, or your responses on your auction site. It detracts from your ad, and puts questions in the minds of potential bidders. Ignore him on your ad.

I think Jim has it right - it is unfortunately par for the course that you'll get random comments during the auction. I've gotten a couple that have really set me off [my current Spitfire auction had some, #150135959606], but it is rarely best to respond to those.

I have also seen some cases where well intentioned eBay'ers have tried to close down auctions that they thought where bogus. Since eBay isn't always very sharp/quick to retire auctions that are fraudulent there is a sort of community policing that happens. I have seen people bid $1,000,000 on a Healey that was clearly bogus just to prevent a scam like the $4,600 TR4A from another thread on the forum.

I can't comment on the particulars here, but maybe this was well initially intentioned and just got heated?

Hope it all works out and you get a fair price for her - she looks nice!

If your auction is damaged, cancel it and start over. Contest the fee with eBay; but even if you wind up not getting a refund, it's probably better than taking less than top dollar.

All good comments,and TRjim is right,I took the bait. I have a friend who says I have never seen a hill I wouldn't die on. NO, I will not name him. I am hoping he realizes, it was very foolish, and hopefully is a OK guy in most other instances.

I agree that you should be mad and I would probably want to do just as you are planning, when I was a bit younger (last week). But since you asked for opinions, I'll offer mine.

I have just noticed that Basil is keeping a good sense of humor about this, which kind of surprised me. Not that he is a difficult Emperor, but this forum has always been one place where these kind of issues are not posted and I think that it is because of his rules and the self policing that takes place here. The civility and decorum that is displayed here outshines 99% of the other forums that are on the net. I think that if you allow your emotions to spill out here, a trend may follow which will not be beneficial to the forum itself.

I would not be adverse to knowing who and what was done to you via PM, but my feelings (since you asked) are to find another avenue to correct the ebay issue, rather than this forum.

Again, these are just MY thoughts and I only stated them because you asked.

What's he hiding names for? It was me Stirkle. I asked him a question about his Spitfire and he went off like a lunatic. I guess he has been trying to sell his Spitfire for a long time and is very touchy about anyone asking questions. His last listing of the Spitfire he did the same thing to other people that asked questions.

Funny thing...even if he "thinks" that, he sure doesn't say or imply it in the auction listing. He claims it to be essentially original (as-built); that's all. If you've been around Triumphs (or most other cars, for that matter) long enough, you know that even 100% original cars are likely as not to fall short at most Concours (note spelling) events, with the possible exception of a Triumph Club meet. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif That's mostly because, especially in the Leyland years, assembly and finish quality was not outstanding.
