My favorite snack is homemade hummus and pita bread. I always make the hummus slightly different each time. last week I got a really good batch of avocados, so I snacked on them all week - sliced and dipped in lime juice.

Kenny,

Everytime you post something about food, I have to look at least one of the items up in Wikipedia...this time it was Hummus. Where do you southern gents come up with all of this stuff?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I'm just a meat and potatoes type of guy. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hummus good, is arabic and can be gotten in a can at most grocery stores. Is Chickpeas and some spices and oil.

More specifically hummus is chickpeas (garbanzo beans), ground finely and mixed with a spoonful of tahini (sesame sead paste), and a splash of lemon or lime juice. just a drizzle of olive oil, but can be made without it. I make mine in a food processor. Then you can spice it up with whatever spices you like. Makes a great dip. It was introduced to me several years ago by one of my wife's egyptian friends. It took me a while to find tahini in the local stores, but finally did by accident - they keep it with the peanut butter.

Hummus is good, and healthy too!! Hummus, pita bread, olives and cheese (a good goat cheese is preferrable, or yoghurt) and one has a full, nutritional meal! Chased with a little vino and you have a recipe for long life!

Make sure the pita bread is fresh and warm.

Oh, brings back good memories of the Turkish Resturant in Riyadh.

My personal hummus recipe. (use a common blender)

1 16oz can of garbanzo beans
(drain off liquid until just below level of peas)
3 Tbsp tahini
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp hot red pepper
1/2 tsp cumin (this is not an option)
1 1/2 large cloves of garlic
Juice of one large lemon ( about 3 Tbsp)
Garnish w/ paprika

Many years of research have gone into this one.....Now it is perfect!!!

A nice chocolate chip cookie.

Or a nice ginger snap.

Or a nice piece of Scottish shortbread.

Or a nice coconut macaroon.

Or...

Well you reminded me I have two candy bars stashed from Herself. Off we go to get them and a glass of moo juice.

I don't often eat in front of the computer because one thing I can't stand is a sticky, food crumb encrusted keyboard. Most of the computers at work have mangy keyboards and it drives me nuts. I go through lots of hand sanitizer. Yeuch!

However, I drink quite a lot, usually water or sodas but sometimes I whip up a yogurt shake. Yogurt (usually French Vanilla) with some raspberries or strawberries thrown in, with a splash of milk, and run through a good old fashioned Hamilton Beach shake machine. You can throw some chocolate syrup in there too.

Tasty, and tough to spill.

My s\wife spilled juice in my keyboard once. It drove me crazy for a while until I replaced it.
