Funny, I "championed" the drop of that serial comma back in high school in the late 1960s and got into a bit of trouble for same. My dad (quite the "Classics" scholar in Latin, Greek and English) came to my defense, and my English teacher and I agreed to disagree; no penalties assessed! :wink:

Actually, it doesn't bother me all that much one way or the other. I still prefer NOT to use that last comma, but I've no problem with anyone who does. What does bother me is inconsistency of style within a given piece of writing.

Now I'm going to have a plethora of commas that I can't use because they want to drop one of my serial commas!
 
Having just done my final doctoral work and done a fair bit of editing - trust me when I say there are far too many commas in use. I myself am working on a plan to recycle all my unused commas into velcro straps. still dealing with some glue issues.

Don't know if we can take any moure of this...
 
Not good at all, I just came across three boxes of genuine, unopened, NOS commas while I was straightening out the spare car parts I have accumulated. Now that they have banned the extra comma they just aren't going to get the same response when I put them on fleabay.

without a comma,by the way.

I'm not getting anywhere with the velcro project - next thought is to sand off the bottoms and use them as periods - or buy a box of periods and build some semi-colons.
