Favorite driver: the 1960 M-B 190 that I drove from coast to coast about ten years ago. Nothing fancy, but built like a tank and a pleasure to drive.

Agreed. Doesn't seem that long at all.

The total trip mileage was around 7500mi; I think the odo showed something like 173K. Only problem was the generator tensioner belt bolt thread stripped loose when I got to Elko Nevada. Had to drive the car to Gallagher Ford for a new bolt. Pulled into the service entrance, and every single mechanic stopped what he/she was doing, and walked over to the car. I opened the hood, and several guys looked inside and said "What's that black cylinder with the spark plus wires coming out the top?"

MBUSA (Mercedes-Benz USA) bought the car from me a year after the trip. It's moved from M-B showroom to showroom, illustrating the reliability of an old M-B. (Can't say the same for the newer ones ...). I have no idea where it is now.

Great memories. But have to admit, I've got the itch to do something like that again.

No way can I top that list. I keep a car 'til th' wheels fall of, then usually rebuild it.

British: 3 MGB roadsters, one MGB-GT. The Elan S-3 DHC, the Lotus Cortina Mk-I and Elan +2. Two other GT's and an MGA in the family and Mitsy's MG weren't "mine" tho I did most of the work on 'em. They don't count.

Italian: Three Alfa GT's; two GT Juniors and a 1750 GTV. One Spider.

German: Diesela, a W123 diesel turbo. Technically, not really mine as it was acquired for Mits' daily commute.

Japanese: The other Horsemits "commuter", a Camry.

Domestic: A K-car given to Herself by her mom. That car hated me. All I had to do was sit in the drivers seat and it would malfunction in some manner.

So legitimately I've owned eleven cars since 1969. My .sig file is a list of what we have currently. The list of "driven" would fill a book th' size of "War and Peace".

I interpreted the post as driving a friend's car as opposed to owning one.
 
As mentioned, the list of cars I've "driven" would be too long, even if I could recall half of 'em. Some of the standouts might be remembered, particularly some of the ones restored and driven afterward.

...and likely elicit a: "Yeah, sure ya did, buddy." from many folks.
 
I could not say how many different cars I drove in the last 55 years. So many hotrods, muscle cars in high school to all the models of Jags at the Jag shop, I know 19 different models were worked on. Then the body shop with 8-10 different cars a day. The corvette shop, which I drove 53s- 80s. I, personally, bought and sold some 45 cars, some profitable, some not. Did give one away for free, regret it to today, and cannot find or trace it. Have 7 registered now and 1 in storage. Neighbors say I have the Car Owner's Virus!

American: 63 Pontiac Catalina (My First Car), 1987 Dodge Daytona, 90 Corvette Convertible, 2000 Corvette C5 Coupe (still own).

British: 1954 Jaguar XK 120 FHC (Restored and traded for Etype), 1967 Jaguar Etype Coupe (My second car in High School), 1967 Etype Roadster (still own), 1972 Jaguar Etype V12 Coupe, 1976 Jaguar XJ6, 1975 Triumph Spitfire, 1978 Triumph Spitfire (still own), 1950 Daimler Special Sport

French: 1984(ish) Renault Fuego (The seats killed my back)

German: 1974 Mercury Capri (designed in Britain, built in Germany). First new car I ever bought. 2003 BMZ Z4 (wife's car)

Italian: 1957 Fiat 1100 (owned briefly in High School)

Korean: 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2021 Kia Telluride

Japanese: 1977 Datsun B210, 1992 Nissan Frontier Club Cab
 
Do you ever think about the Catalina? Neighbor down the street talks about his, regrets ever selling it. His Dad made him get a smaller car for gas mileage for school.
 
I hope you'all didn't think I owned all of those. I'm not Jay Leno, not even Jay Gatsby. They included as examples, test rides SIATA, Singer, Jags, Morgan, Dauphine, MGB, Bentley, Porsche 924,Datsun 240Z, 210 and Altima, big Healey- I bought a Twin-Cam MG instead; friends cars -Arnoit Bristol - actually 2, owned by my cousin Alan. I had custody while he was away on long trips, like a month; , BMW Z3, Honda S2000 (also test ride), MGB GT, MG Midget, TR2(I was repairing the smashed radiator while my friend Herb was in the Army), Giulietta and Giulia, both Acuras, Miata, MGA (brother's) Jetta (my daughter's), Fiat Spider, Mazda RX7, Mazda 6 (son's), Prius, Lexus, Avalon, Saab 900, Lancia (father's). Cars when I worked in shop - 300 SL, 190 SL (also almost bought a client's for $4,000.00 and should have), Saab 93, TF 1500; two Porsches 911 and 928 I drove working a raffle for the American Cancer Society in Greenwich; rented cars here and in Europe - Mitsubishi Gallant(New Hampshire), Renault 16 and later one in France, Fiat Uno in Italy, Vauxhall in Scotland, Escort in England for trip to Cotswolds. And - I forgot 3 others I've driven - father's and brother-in-law's Mercedes 230 sedans and my wife's Infiniti G 20 (5-speed).
 
It is always nice to be able to drive other's cars I lucked out by working on them. Also, buying and selling. Boats were the same. Worked different dealers and harbors, piloted the boats and drove their cars.
 
Use to do a lot of travelling on business. Drove a lot of rental cars. Don't remember any of them, except a Ford Ka in England.

Believe it or not, I used the Cat as a partial trade for a 67 Jaguar Etype. That said, the Cat was definitely a nice ride on the highway - AC blew so cold you could store beef in the car!
 
I can't remember all the American cars I've driven, but I've owned 1934 Ford convertible (my first car), 1940 Ford sedan, 1951 Ford sedan, 1952 Ford club coupe, 1962 Corvair Monza coupe, 1963 Corvair convertible, Olds F-85 (broke down 3 times on road trips), 1969 Dodge Dart (totalled on New Years Eve when a guy ran into it while it was parked on the street), 1971 Plymouth Gold Duster - that's it. Oh - and I forgot my ill-fated Twin-Cam MGA.
 
One of the best cars I've ever owned was a 1947 Plymouth coupe. Bought new by an elderly couple, after about 10,000 miles, it developed a noise in the engine and they traded it in for another Plymouth. The dealer put a new engine in it and put it on the lot, it looked and ran like new, dad bought it for me as I just got out of boot camp and needed a car. Don't know how many times I bumped the starter thinking it had stalled because it was so quiet. Sold it to a fellow on the base and bought a Ford! Have no idea why I did that, must have been the V8 engine sold me. :rolleyes2:
 
My brother had a 1949 Plymouth business coupe in high school. Black. He somehow managed to blow the engine. I myself got a ride to school in Donny O'Toole's robins egg blue 1948 Plymouth club coupe. Like you said, very smooth and quiet motor. Probably would enjoy driving one today.
 
I've had two Plymouths, my first car was a '63 Valiant with the slant-6. What it had in good reliability was made up for in lack of power. So I sold it and bought a '70 Duster 340. It was at the other end of the scale.
