For those contemplating retirement...

I agree with that theory about relieving stress and becoming healthier and I retired early also, but not everyone can do that in todays society. It's nice for a doctor who has over a 6 figure paycheck each year to say that, but a lot of folks live from week to week and do not have a retirement program to boot. Some are fortunate enough to be able to do that, but that's not a statement for the public in general. I wish it was, but not to happen. PJ

Worked for me. :arms:

Wow... that's a cool cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just retired at the beginning of the year. I'm getting to like this, as I'm catching up on a lot of hobbies and interests that have been put too long on the back burner. I'll be OK as long as the money holds out. Hope to have it last at least a few more months!

Y'all do know the Onion is satire, right?

Having said that, retirement suits me just fine - should've done this loooong ago!

LOL Yep, satire but like any good satire, it has a serious kernel of truth. I've gone to 6 months "on" and 6 months "off" to ease my way in (and because I'm lucky enough to be able to)... and I'll stop for good next March. I had originally hoped to retire 5 years ago.... but that was before all the 401Ks turned into "201Ks." :p Now I'm mostly ready.

Seriously though, they say that if your ego and/or identity is tied up in your work, you may not be happy stopping. Me? I'm looking forward to it. I'm also figuring that, like a number of other friends, it may take some time to find my new stride.

Hopefully you did notice that this 'doctor' was being quoted in The Onion.

It does appear that at least one health website picked up and repeated the article w/o realizing it was a spoof:

My god... they did!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is hilarious! ...and they say you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

That said, I'm counting down the days until I can do exactly what the article recommends. Granted the numbers are still kinda big, but at least they're finite!
