I've read a thousand ideas - lots of good ones too. For the time being, I am just going to let the forum run and not accept any new advertising, memberships, paid classifieds for cars (The parts adverts are still free though and can continue) nor do any new web hosting (not that there has been any anyway). I need time to think about what to do that will be best for MY future and that of my family.

For now, the forum will remain while I think about what to do and discuss it with my wife. If I do decide to shut down, I will try to provide at least a couple months notice.
 
Thank you Basil...I hope you know how much we appreciate BCF. First Dave Russell, now this. I took a lot of things for granted here.

:computer: I know I am repeating myself but I for one am very willing to pay for the privilege of being a part of this forum. While I understand that this would not be your first choice, if we can save the forum by becoming a subscription only link, that would be fine with me.
 
I'd rather have 500 paying and participating members, than no Forum at all.
 
Do what's best for you and the family, but count me in for the duration of the ride.
 
I couldn't agree more with the sentiments here -- do what you need to do (your family and time *always* comes first). I'll happily be participating for the duration.
 
Whew, Can cancel the rubber room at the home for the time being!

Holy mackerel, only two months warning, I've got at least 12 months more work to do on my restore. Guess I better get humping. :eeek:

That's probably a more realistic figure of the amount of truly active members on this forum. I know that there are alot of members that use this forum but don't post on a continual basis, so let's say there would be 1,000 more or less hard core members. I don't think that is enough to sustain this site as it is.

One of the problems is that all of these cars are orphans, and most of the members here are into LBCs because they had them when they were younger. For the most part, the cars we are talking about span from the early '50s to the early '80s...a mere thirty years of limited production vehicles. This is a very small select community that doesn't have much prospect of growing. As a matter of fact, as time goes by, the group will become smaller and smaller. Even Moss Motors, an LBC supplier for years has expanded into Ford F150s, Mustangs and Miatas. They know that eventually the LBC market will dwindle and eventually disappear.

I don't think the time has come for a forum such as this to disappear, but it is something that will eventually have to happen.
 
I doubt that the British Sports Car hobby will ever disappear. Cars much older and more arcane still have strong followings.

Let me add my Amen Bas. I have been sort of in and out on the forum, but I can't imagine driving an LBC and not knowing it was here. Sort of a Rock of Gibralter as it were. God Bless You in whatever He leads you to do. Dale
 
Count me in too, boss. What you decide will obviously affect my 2 websites, but it's not like there aren't a lot of choices for servers if you shut down. You have to do what is best for you, and, as you have seen in the 100's of posts, the "community" backs you and is thankful for the experience to date.
 
Nothing lasts forever. I'm just very glad for the experiences I've had here.

Many thanks to all who made it happen, and to Basil's vision for a very clean and happy place.
