I would think the heat would counteract the work hardening.I know the reason pure copper (not cupro-nickel) brake lines are illegal on cars is the material becomes work-hardened through flexing and eventually breaks. Maybe the same for exhaust pipes?
... and high-compression pistons, hotter cam, re-curved distributor, re-valved shocks, stiffer springs and a louvered bonnet.
What really makes it, though, is the bent cross-brace in front of the radiator.
