footwell vent

hi hope some one can help I need to know how to remove the footwell vent knob it turns the vains in the demister footwell system
that is marked windscreen vent on my 69 series 2 I am recovering the dash
tanks in advance tony

Look at the side of the knob. It will either have a set screw or a button. For the button, use small punch and push in the button and pull knob off. Works fine if not corroded. Set screw, just find small enough screwdriver and unscrew the set screw until knob comes off.

The knob in question is a disc that fits flush against the dash:

I can just see a big thin nut behind the knob but the cardboard is in place under my dash so I could not really see what is beyond the knob. Hopefully, as Larry notes, there is a shaft that has a release.

Okay - I began to think that the cable and knob were one & inseparable, so I did some searching:

These things are a little tricky. To remove first
disconnect the black plastic square louvre from the body..4
metal screws.Pull the louvre box off the boss( which has 2
set screws in it )..its just a friction fit. Slacken the 2
set screws and remove the boss. Remove the 2 nuts (
0.6inches ) from the end of the cable. The whole cable with
knob is now removed , by turning the outer cable to unscrew
it from the dash. There is a thin hex fitting on and part of
the cable behind the knob, which is 0.63inches wide, but you
would need a thin wrench( o.1 inch thick )to get at it. Its
easier just to spin the outer cable to get it out. The
rotating knob can NOT be removed from the cable AFAIK.
