Folding top frame spring

There are two large springs that assist with raising and lowering the folding top frame.

One end hooks in the hole on the top frame but where does the other end hook? ( the end that is down towards the floor?)

Its possible that since I've had mostly new metal during the rebuild that the original hole has been lost.

I think it is a tab on the floor, but someone soon will be more definitive. I do remember you need a long set of needle nose pliers to get it hooked.

I got the softtop out to fit the hardtop

It is where the pink wire is sticking through

In that case I have a problem! No tab!

obviously missed out at the body shop.

Thinking caps on to try and come up with a solution.

This one would do, adjustable !!

I'm with British Recovery. I fitted some to mine when I bought the car. Doesn't make a lot of difference in how the top works. I've since removed them to make way for retractable seat belt mounting. I don't miss the springs at all.

Right, I will try it without the springs to start with.

Yesterday I purchased a couple of eye bolts to fabricate a floor hook if need be.

Planning on attempting the installation of the folding top next week which I am not looking forward to.

Installing the top isn't that bad, just mentally prepare yourself for having to install, clip, remove and adjust the rear rail about a dozen times. Taking your time is key here.

As original a tab is welded to the side of the side rail. The spring hole extends above the top of the rail about a half inch. It is very hard to attach the spring since you have to deal with spring tension. You also need to position the spring so it doesn't interfere with anything when the top is raised and lowered.
