flywheel

A simple demonstration. Take a piece of string, tie a 1 ounce weight on one end, and a one pound weight on the other. Hold the large weight in your hand, and whirl the string. Now do the same holding the small weight. The overall weight is the same, but the difference is certainly noticeable.
The weight held in your hand is simulating the weight that is close to the hub on the flywheel, while the free end represents the mass at the edge.

Wedging a A series crankshaft is where you set the crank up in v blocks on a mill and remove weight, the trick to remove very little from the bottomm of the crank throws but remove most of the mass from the near the journal, the crank throws end up looking like a pie triangle when you're done, then you balance everything.

The moment of inertia of three is nearly the same as the inertia of one. The inertia of two is very much less than the other two.
Two and Three have nearly the same weight.
